as in the Holy Bible "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" [Exodus 14:14], and
in the Quran "Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives, and the fruits of your toil. But give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Those who say, when afflicted with calamity" [2:155 - 157].
Yeah I read the bibles, and now the Quran too (will talk more about why I'm reading both holy books in my next blog). And, I believe God never stops testing us because of He loves and cares for us, in this year itself (only being 5 months away) I have encountered first being criticized by my own sister when I bought a new car, then followed by conflict by colleagues the moment after my promotion news came out and then recently being rejected from blood donation (for the first time). No one knows how much all these hurt me and got me broke down emotionally.
The nurse says I have to cleanse the drug in me before donating again so I have to be on proper diet and stop taking those pills in order to be fit again. Thus, in conjuction with the fasting period, I took up the challenge to go on puasa (literally means fasting in Malay) as the umat Islam claim one of the benefits of puasa is our body could concentrate on removing toxins as we give the digestive system a rest. Decided to do it for 30 days to make a complete set.
Yeah! So far so good as I'm going through it and eight more days to go. However, facts that I learned from some of the challenges from this fasting are:
- there are people who (really) condemns you by its cover
- people always jump into conclusion based on their own judgement
- we don't have to explain to everyone else
- I actually could overcome it by staying silence, I did it!
- it's funny though when seeing that person (who condemns you and you're being silent) got so frustrated but cannot do anything to you (´・ω・`)
- fasting is not all about torturing yourself
- fasting is not just to cleanse your body
- fasting is to clear your mind
- fasting is to control your anger and stay calm
- fasting is about being patient
- fasting is about being able to feel the poor in going through hunger and thirst
- I once condemned the people who didn't drink for so many hours but today I'm swallowing my own pride, so be careful of your words
I'm all ready to donate blood now! And yes, I'm going to puasa again in next year (hopefully). Last but not least, you don't have to be a muslim to go through fasting. You might even able to do better than any of them out there. Just set up your mind and intention right, in God's will, you will be blessed and rewarded with something nice.
